Leather with different tanning methods
Before a hide can be used as leather, it needs to be processed or tanned. This ensures that the leather is strong, is long-lasting and does not deteriorate. There are different tanning methods. Most leather is tanned with chromium, a metal. Chrome-tanned leather is durable, soft and holds its color. Chrome-free tanning means that the chromium has been replaced by other non-heavy metals. You can also buy fully vegetable tanned leather, which is tanned exclusively with natural substances. The leather is slightly more sensitive to external influences and suitable for people with a chrome allergy. Each tanning method, together with the further finishing, influences the look-and-feel of the leather. Check out the Leatherbox collections by tanning method here.
