Separating zippers (open-end) and closed bottom zippers (closed-end)

However, when choosing the right zipper, more than just what you like matters. Based on the application, first determine whether you need a separating (open-end) zipper or closed bottom (closed-end) zipper. You use closed bottom zippers for most applications. With these zippers, the two zipper parts at the bottom always remain attached to each other, such as with pants, pockets, or a bag. With a separating zipper you can separate the two zipper parts completely, like with a jacket. Does the separating zipper have two sliders? Then you can open it at te top and at the bottom.
