The Lorkapple Appleskin™ is suitable for making shoes, bags and leather accessories. It is made from apple fibre, among other things, which comes from waste from the food industry. The natural grain provides a leather look.

Leather is a natural product and each animal has its own physical characteristics. So none of the hides are identical. Read the product description to learn whether the leather suits your application in terms of size, thickness, skin structure, irregularities and external influences.

This also determines the appearance of the leather.

Full Grain | Highest leather quality from the top of the hide. Soft, durable and strong.

Grain suede | Combination of smooth top and soft bottom of the skin. Smoother and stronger than suede.

Split | Leather from the intermediate layer of the skin. Lower quality and less soft and strong than full grain leather.

Suede | Soft split leather with visible skin pores. More fragile and lower quality than grain suede.

Nubuck | Sanded grain leather with a fine structure. Suede feel, but higher quality and (often) with visible markings.

Nappa | Naming for thin, soft and smooth grain leather.

Vegan leather alternative | Animal-free product with a leather look-and-feel, made of vegetable ingredients and plastics.

Composition

Here you can see the composition of the leather. With leather alternatives, it is important to understand that the leather does not have an animal origin, but does contain plastics in addition to the vegetable raw materials.

Firmness (1-5)

Degree of flexibility of the leather. We apply a scaling from 1 to 5: flexible (1), average (3) and firm (5).

Keep in mind that the thickness of the leather also affects the firmness. A leather collection with a thickness of 1mm and a firmness value of 3, might feel more flexible than another leather collection that is thicker and also has a firmness value of 3.

Gloss (1-5)

The degree of light reflection on the leather. We apply a scaling from 1 to 5: matte (1), silk gloss (3) and high gloss (5).

Application

There are no fixed rules about which leather you can use for which application. The leather worker decides which properties of a collection matches the needs and the application. However, there are a few general things to keep in mind: For example, leather that is especially suitable for shoes can stain. This is not acceptable for bags or furniture. In addition, it is important for the linings of clothing and shoes that leather breathes. Leather for furniture often has extra layers of paint to protect against scratches, for example. We try to inform designers as best as we possibly can about the properties of a collection in order to make the right choice. Are you not sure about an application? Seasonal collections are temporarily available, depending on the season, year or trends.

Limited collections are available while stocks last.

Leather from the outlet contains minor damage or imperfections and we therefore do not offer it under one of the other collections. Ideal if you're looking for a bargain.

Available dimensions.

Each hide is unique. The stated sizes therefore indicate the total surface and not the exact length and width measurements (if you order a quarter skin of 100x90 cm, it might also be 110x81 cm). The panel size is an exact size. Also consider cutting loss when choosing the right size.

Thickness

Leather is a natural product. The thickness can therefore slightly differ per hide and batch. The stated thickness of a leather collection always has a margin of 0.2 mm. If you order a hide with a thickness of 0.6 - 0.8 mm, then your hide has a thickness between 0.6 and 0.8 mm.

Location tannery/supplier

The location of the tannery, supplier or producer of the leather collection. The location of the supplier or tannery does not have to say anything about the origin of the hides and leather.

What to expect

The difference compared to traditional leather

Animal-free leather alternatives are also known as vegetable leather, or vegan leather. However, the word leather is protected and it is only allowed to be used for tanned animal hides. That is why Leatherbox does not offer this as vegan leather, but as a leather alternative. Ideal for those looking for a product without animal origin, but with a leather look. It is important to understand that animal-free is not the same as sustainable. Leather alternatives do contain plastics. In addition, it is not as strong as traditional leathers. Unlike traditional leather, leather alternatives contain no natural imperfections.

Colors
We try to give an accurate representation of what you order. Colors on a computer screen may look slightly different in real life. We therefore always recommend ordering a color chart of the collection first. In addition, leather from the same collection may show minor color differences per batch.

Applications
The correct choice of product depends on your wishes and the application. Always read the specific properties of the collection carefully. Refer to the size chart for the leather alternative you would like to order. Because leather alternatives come off a roll, the sizes listed are fixed, square sizes. Shipping and delivery

Made your choice? Then it's our turn. After receiving your order and payment, we will send your favorite items and our warmest regards with the delivery person within 1 to 3 working days. You will receive an email from us as soon as your package is on its way. You will also receive a separate email from the shipping party with track & trace information. Count on a delivery time between 2 to 5 working days. Within the Netherlands, delivery is usually slightly faster. Because we have no influence on how hard the postman steps on the accelerator, the stated delivery times are always indicative.

We understand that hasty speed is sometimes good. That is why you can also choose fast delivery with UPS Express when ordering. You pay a little more shipping costs, but you can start your design faster.

The total amount of your order must be at least 20 EUR. Shipping is free for orders from € 75 in the Netherlands and Belgium and from €200 in the rest of Europe.

Returns

We hope you are excited to get started as soon as you receive your order. However if you are not satisfied with the product(s) you ordered, you can return it to Leatherbox up to 14 days after receiving your order. You can only return products that are in new, unused condition. You are responsible for return shipping costs, including packaging.
